On Sunday G+’s most adorable couple, +Marilyn Ritter and+George Cohn joined me for a fantastic show . They cooked one of my favorite dishes, Spicy Coconut Shrimp with Calypso Rice and a tasty Orange sauce Here is a link to this fantastic recipe: http://goo.gl/7Dn1g . The meal was wonderfully paired with a Sweet Pink Mimosa. Here is Renee Preston Hooper’s description as to why the wine was selected.
“I have longingly studied the recipe for Spicy Caribbean Coconut Shrimp with Calypso Rice and an Orange Sauce and here is what I will be drinking with it. Sweet Pink Mimosa:
Barefoot Bubbly Pink Moscato Champagne (widely available at most groc stores and mass retailers for $12-$13) is deliciously sweet and bubbly with flavors of red tree fruit and fresh berries. A creamy finish collides perfectly with candied cherry and sweet citrus flavors. Pour into a frosted champagne glass leaving some room and top off with a splash of Simply Orange or some of that fresh squeezed orange juice you used for the recipe. The perfect compliment for this dish! You will DIE! Try it and let me know what yall think.”
Trivia tidbit: Moscato and Muscatel wines are made from the Muscat grape. Muscat grapes contain a number of compounds that give muscat wines their distinct flavor.
Muscat grapes have been found to have high concentrations of antioxidant flavonoids, in quantities as high as many varieties of red grapes. This means that the possible beneficial effects of red wine consumption may also be present in muscat wines.
The Muscat variety of grapes of the species Vitis vinifera is widely grown for wine, raisins and table grapes. Their color ranges from white to near black. Muscat almost always has a pronounced sweet floral aroma. The breadth and number of varieties of muscat suggest that it is perhaps the oldest domesticated grape variety, and there are theories that most families within the Vitis vinifera grape variety are descended from the Muscat variety.
